Congratulations on your new home! Now that you’ve moved in there is still a lot more to do besides unpack. Here is a helpful checklist to consider when settling into your new home.
- Keep all receipts and documentation related to your move in a safe secure place.
- Make sure all your services are up and running, utilities, cable, telephone etc.
- Check all major appliances and electronics to make sure nothing was damaged during the move and everything is working properly.
- If you have moved out of state you’ll need to get a new driver’s license, tags and/or plates for your vehicle. Check your local DMV for more information.
- Register your child(ren) for school.
- Register your new address with the post office by filling out a change of address form. This is to make sure all your mail is being forwarded to the correct address.
- Get finances in order, set up new accounts, transfer money or order new checks with your new address.
- Contact the Department of Sanitation to see when trash will be picked up in your area.
- Search for new health professionals and have your medical records transferred.
